Jimmy Vuong (pronouns: he/him/his) is a licensed clinical social worker. He has experience working with people of all ages, varieties of backgrounds, and broad ranges of presenting concerns.  He received his Masters of Social Work from Michigan State University. At Everwell Health and Counseling Services, Jimmy works with clients of all ages, helping empower and support them in their mental health and wellbeing.

 

Jimmy's specializations are with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression, life stressors, conflict within relationships, grief and loss, and personal growth. The primary methods He utilizes in his sessions are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, Holistic Approach, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational interviewing, Strength-Based and Person-Centered Therapy.

 

Jimmy has experience providing clinical services in a variety of settings to clients spanning a range of ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. These experiences have required the development to self-reflect and critically examine his own perspectives on the role of culture and diversity in the therapeutic environment. Jimmy’s clinical experiences have strengthened his ability to acknowledge the interplay between an individual’s presentation and their cultural framework, and this knowledge further assists him in developing a culturally appropriate course of treatment.

 

Jimmy's approach to therapy includes seeing himself as a guide, while recognizing the individual client as the driver and creator of their own success and change. Jimmy believes having a trusting, supportive, and strength-focused relationship with his client is the foundation of counseling. Rather than adopting one methodology for all individuals and issues, he draws from a variety of methods to create a modified and adaptive approach for each individual client and their situation. As a therapist, he is fun, open, encouraging, and direct. 

 

In addition to working at Everwell Health and Counseling Services, Jimmy has served as a clinical social worker at the University of Michigan Dearborn – Counseling and Psychological Department for 7 years.
